This setting is used to specify how session scope variables should be locked. The possible choices are: No automatic checking or locking (the developer has to ensure that variables are properly locked with the CFLOCK tag), Full checking (Cold-Fusion checks all variables to make sure they are properly locked), Automatic read’
locking (ColdFusion checks all server variables to make sure they are properly locked when writing and automatically locks variables for reads).
On the Add New Mapping screen, shown in Figure 35.5, you can add directory mappings to Coldfusion just as you can to yqur Web server.
Typically, a Web server or a Web server-based application environment such as Cold-Fusion is configured with a default root directory. When a user accesses the base URL ,for the server in the form http://coldfusionhelp.net/ the documents they are provided access to come from this default root directory on the server and below. This default root directory can be anywhere on. the system, such as c :\htm 1.At times, there are reasons to store documents and files that need to be accessed via the Web in directories outside the root directory and its subdirectories. This access can be achieved through mappings. For instance, given the preceding example of the root directory, the URL http://hostname/i mages/test. gi f would be accessing the file c :\htm1 \ images\test .gi f. However, what if you wanted to store the GIF file in the directory c :\ images? A Web browser has no way to access this except through mappings. For instance, if you map /images to c:\ images, then the URL: http://coldfusionhelp.net which is outside the root directory’s tree.Using the ColdFusion Administrator, you need to provide two pieces of information on the Add New Mapping screen to create a mapping:
The path relative to the root URL for the site that you are creating a
mapping .for. In our example, this would be /i mages. Directory Path The absolute system path for which the mapping is being created. In our example, this would be c :\ images At the bottom of the screen is a list of existing mappings. By clicking any mapping (all are displayed as links) you can edit or delete it.
The Server Information screen displays current information about your ColdFusion server, as shown in Figure 35.6. This screen is not used to perform any configuration, but instead shows information such as the server version being used, the operating system and version being used, and the serial number of your ColdFusion installation.
The Data Sources section of the ColdFusion Administrator is used t. create and manage a variety of data sources, including ODBC, native, and OLE data sources. It contains four screens:
• Native Drivers
• Verify Data Source
The ODBC l’ata Sources Available to Coldfusion screen, shown in Figure 35.7, is where you define and manage ODBC data sources such as Microsoft Access and Visual Foxfire databases. To create a new data source, first type a name fur the data source in the field provided and then choose the type of database you will be using for the data source from the drop-down list, as shown in Figure 35.8.
Next, click the Add button. This leads to the Create OOBC Data Source screen shown in Figure 35.9, where can specify relevant information about the data source
The information that you specify varies from data source type to data source type and is outlined in detail in the ColdFusion online documentation in of Administering the ColdFusion Server. Because you have worked with Microsoft Access databases throughout this book, you will look at the information to be provided with Microsoft Access data sources:
Data Source Name
The name for the data source. This will reflect the name entered on the OOBC Data Sources Available to ColdFusion screen before clicking the Add button.
A description of the data source.
The full path and filename of the Access file when creating the data
source as a file data source.
The full path and filename of the Access file.when creating the
data source as a system data source. System data sources can be accessed by any user on the system and not just the local user. Although the Microsoft Windows OOBC “
ColdFusion Administration environment makes this distinction” Access sources created through ColdFusion as file data sources are created as system data sources, so the filename can be entered in either the Database File or System Database field.
Here you can set the page timeout for pages querying the database’
as well as the cache size for pages using the data source.
If your database requires a username and password, they should be
provided here. The CF Settings button at the right of the screen expands the screen to include several additional settings, as shown In Figure 35.10.
